In Shakespeare’s play the tragedy of Julius Caesar, he mentions some very important leaders that are all related amongst each other. In my opinion Brutus is the most interesting because of the decisions he made and also his betrayals. Shakespeare portrays Brutus’s personality and character in two important ways: his beliefs about himself and government and also his motives. In the play Shakespeare wrote about Brutus’s personal and political beliefs as well as Brutus’s motives for making the choices he made.

Shakespeare describes Brutus’s personal beliefs as well as political. “Not that I love Caesar less but I loved Rome more,” was what Brutus said to explain their reasons for why he acted against Caesar. Brutus liked Caesar but did not like the power he had behind Rome. Brutus also wanted Rome to be a democracy and was not convinced that Caesar should hold all the power. Caesar strong rule aroused opposition among those who believed in democracy. Brutus will object to Caesar powers, and his love for Rome will make Brutas overlook their friendship and betray Caesar thinking he is saving Rome.

Brutus’s motives for making the choices he made are because of Caesars One Man Rule. Because of Caesars One Man Rule many people will plan to take him down before anything bad happens. Brutus believed that he would be over powerful in the future. He sacrificed his friend and benefactor to what he believed was the cause of liberty. Brutus lost everything in the end but he thought it was for the better good.

Brutus was good friends with Caesar but he had to put their friendship behind in order to prevent Caesar from becoming overpowered in the future. In the process Brutus lose everything in terms or political and social ranking, and has to restart his life as a fugitive. Shakespeare demonstrated sacrifice with Brutus’s and Caesar’s friendship.
