I nailed a banknote to a tree
But it did not nourish me
I placed a cheque upon the earth
I signed it, but
No crops came forth
I pressed a coin against my lips
I closed my eyes –
I felt no kiss
I came to the conclusion that
I'd laboured
Under an illusion
And that
The light loves the leaf,
The soil needs the seed, and
Love must have a lover.
All this I discovered
On
An empty stomach.
