Time has gotten the best of us
it’s been too long since we’ve almost gotten caught
and the sun still stings - blisters on our tongues
and it still reminds the world of how much hotter this weather could get for us
but we won’t stay here for too long
and we both know that
we kept it in a hidden place for far too long
and we both know it’s safer kept there
and yet you are a sun that shines
brighter than these city lights
even when you're meant to be quite
you sing loud - so loud
I hear the price of this sweet paradise
dimming out our favorite stars
and well I do love you
I can’t do that to myself
I think of you as my child
I think of you as my father
and when the air isn’t as hot
I promise I’d grow to think of you as my lover too
